Business Process Modeling Language¶
A deprecated XML-based language for specifying executable business-process definitions, control flow, data and transactional behavior.
Core Idea¶
BPML is distinct from the graphical BPMN notation and from BPEL, version and vendor implementation matter, deprecation is historical status rather than part of syntax and a process diagram alone is not a BPML document. XML elements encode activities, sequencing branching parallelism messages variables exceptions and transactions so an engine can interpret a process definition and coordinate service interactions. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
Business Process Modeling Language belongs to business process technology and is useful where the analyst can specify the typed business process technology carrier, including objects, relations, parameters, conventions, evidence, boundaries, and comparison targets, then evaluate the BPML specification version and XML namespace, process definition and participants, atomic and complex activities, control-flow constructs, data properties and expressions, messages and service bindings, transactions compensation and exception handling, scheduling and correlation, execution semantics, validation and relationship to BPEL BPMN and implementation status are explicit.
Clarity¶

Manages Complexity¶
Without the abstraction, an analyst must reason directly over many local details: the carrier roles, admissibility assumptions, competing conventions, derived invariants, boundary cases, and proof or validation obligations specific to Business Process Modeling Language.
