Information Systems¶

6 domain-specific abstractions whose origin domain is Information Systems.

Data store — A persistent repository and access boundary for collections of data, encompassing databases, files, object stores and other managed storage forms.
Information model — A formal representation of the entity kinds, relationships, constraints, rules and operations that give data shared semantics within a chosen domain of discourse.
Process-data diagram — A modeling diagram that places a process structure beside the data or deliverable structure it creates, linking activities directly to their outputs.
Semantic Heterogeneity — The condition in data integration where independently developed schemas or datasets encode overlapping domains with incompatible meanings, scopes, units, identifiers, or conventions, so syntactic exchange cannot produce correct interpretation without explicit reconciliation.
Semantic integration — The reconciliation and interrelation of heterogeneous information sources by aligning meanings, entities and contextual assumptions rather than matching syntax alone.
Work systems — A sociotechnical system in which people and machines perform processes with information and technology to produce products or services for customers.
