- Crown Group — The smallest clade containing all living representatives of a focal biological group: their most recent common ancestor and every descendant of that ancestor, living or extinct.
- Quartet distance — The number or normalized fraction of four-leaf subsets on which two phylogenetic trees induce different quartet topologies.
