Historical systems contain varying numbers, locations, deities and practices; the popular seven-chakra scheme is one modern transmission and should not be projected universally. Texts and practices map ritual symbols, sounds, elements and deities onto a subtle-body center, using visualization to organize cosmology and contemplative transformation.
