Class struggle¶
Conflict between social classes arising from opposed material interests, control of resources and unequal power.
Core Idea¶
Marxist traditions differ on class definition, historical agency and relation to race, gender and status; descriptive use should not presume one political prescription. Relations of ownership and labor place groups in recurrent opposition over surplus, working conditions, law and institutional control, producing bargaining, organization and political contestation. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of political sociology. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the theory and period, class positions and membership criteria, material interests and resources, power relation, arena and form of conflict, institutions, collective action and historical evidence are explicit.
Scope of Application¶
