Color grading¶
A post-production image process that deliberately transforms tone and color to establish a consistent technical rendering and intended visual style across shots or images.
Core Idea¶
Color grading adjusts an image's tonal and chromatic appearance for presentation, continuity and expressive intent.[1] Global and localized transforms remap luminance and chroma, balance camera and display differences and coordinate shots into a controlled visual progression. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of film postproduction. It is post-production control of chromatic and tonal presentation across an audiovisual work.
