Conceptual design¶
The early design phase that establishes a solution's governing functions, architecture, interactions and form before detailed specification.
Core Idea¶
Conceptual design translates needs and constraints into alternative principles and system concepts, using sketches, models and scenarios to expose high-leverage tradeoffs while change remains inexpensive. Designers clarify functions and users, generate qualitatively different architectures, represent them at low fidelity, evaluate them against criteria and select or combine a concept for embodiment. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
