A conceptual question asks learners to reason from relevant concepts rather than substitute numbers into a familiar formula or perform lengthy calculation. A carefully chosen qualitative situation or distractor exposes a misconception, requires coordination of principles and supports peer explanation, formative feedback or diagnostic assessment.
