Conversation analysis¶
A research approach examining how participants produce social order turn by turn in naturally occurring interaction.
Core Idea¶
CA relies on recordings and detailed transcription, treats context as procedurally displayed and differs from content coding or prescriptive communication training. Analysts inspect sequential placement, turn construction, repair and preference organization across cases to show how participants make actions recognizable and accountable. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of sociology of interaction. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the recorded naturally occurring setting, participants and consent governance, transcription convention, focal action and sequence, turn-taking and repair evidence, deviant cases, collection construction and warranted interactional claim are explicit.
Scope of Application¶
