Critical to quality¶
A measurable product, service or process characteristic whose performance has a direct and substantial effect on customer-perceived or required quality.
Core Idea¶
Criticality must be traced from a customer or regulatory need rather than asserted, and the metric, specification limits and causal process drivers are distinct elements. Voice-of-customer needs are decomposed into measurable characteristics, thresholds are assigned and process inputs affecting those characteristics are monitored and improved. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of quality management. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the customer or stakeholder need, product service or process output, CTQ characteristic, operational metric and unit, target and specification limits, defect definition, causal drivers, measurement system and validation traceability are explicit.
Scope of Application¶
