Cronyism¶
The allocation of offices, contracts, credit or privileges to friends and associates because of personal connection rather than relevant merit or impartial procedure.
Core Idea¶
The term is evaluative and evidence must distinguish relationship-based favoritism from lawful trust, political appointment or demonstrated qualification. A decision-maker controls scarce benefits, personal-network loyalty substitutes for public or organizational criteria and reciprocal advantage entrenches an insider network. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
