Diegetic Level

A ranked layer of narration fixed by the narrator's position relative to the story-world, so that truth, knowledge, and accountability attach to a level index and do not cross a level boundary unless the work explicitly upgrades the claim.

A diegetic level is a ranked layer of narration defined by how far inside or outside the story-world the narrating act sits. From Genette's taxonomy — extradiegetic (outside any world), intradiegetic (a character in the primary world), metadiegetic (a character telling an embedded tale), deeper still — each level carries its own truth-conditions, knowledge horizon, and locus of accountability, bundled to a single level index.
