Emanationism¶
A metaphysical-cosmological doctrine in which all levels of reality proceed necessarily from a first principle through successively mediated and diminished derivations.
Core Idea¶
Emanation traditions disagree about necessity, temporality, agency and return, and the doctrine must not be collapsed into creation from nothing, material causation or literal spatial outflow. A maximally unified first principle overflows or expresses itself through ordered hypostases, each derivative level depending on its source while possessing less unity or perfection and sometimes turning back toward it. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
