Empirical formula¶
A chemical formula giving the simplest whole-number ratio of elements in a compound without specifying molecular atom count, connectivity or structure.

An empirical formula reduces a compound's elemental atom counts to their lowest whole-number ratio. Measured composition is converted to relative mole amounts, normalized and approximated to integers, discarding any common multiplier and all connectivity information.
