Enterprise content management¶
An organizational discipline and system architecture for capturing, governing, storing, preserving and delivering content across its lifecycle and business processes.
Core Idea¶
ECM spans strategy, governance and tools rather than one product, overlaps records and document management and must distinguish managed content from structured transactional data. Content enters through controlled capture, receives metadata classification and access rules, moves through review and approval workflows, is versioned and retained and is retrieved or disposed under enterprise policy. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
