Ethnonym¶

Core Idea¶
An ethnonym identifies a people while also recording who names whom and in what linguistic-historical relationship. Names emerge through self-identification, neighboring usage, administration, migration and translation, and can shift in reference or acceptability over time. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
