Data Grouping & Rate Measures

← Back to Domain-Specific Families

Abstractions that loosely connect grouping data and measuring rates or change — visualization and preprocessing techniques (alluvial diagram, data binning), and rate- or change-sensitive quantitative indicators such as effective data transfer rate, negative volume index and the p-chart.

5 abstractions in this family — domain-specific abstractions that sit near one another in structural-signature space (k-means over structural-signature embeddings). Each is shown with its short description.

  • Alluvial diagram — A flow visualization whose blocks represent groups at successive stages and whose width-scaled streams show how members or quantities move among those groups over time or categories.
  • Data binning — A preprocessing transformation that groups values into intervals or categories and replaces or summarizes observations by their bin membership or representative value.
  • Effective Data Transfer Rate — Measure the average rate at which declared data units cross a source-to-sink boundary and are accepted as valid, rather than the nominal signaling rate or the volume merely offered to the channel.
  • Negative volume index — Conditionally accumulate price or breadth changes only on sessions whose trading volume falls from the previous session, producing a path-dependent technical-analysis series whose interpretation requires a declared variant and test period.
  • P-chart — A binomial Shewhart control chart that monitors the proportion of nonconforming units in successive samples using center and control limits adjusted for sample size.
