- Attenuation theory — A selective-attention model in which unattended inputs are weakened rather than completely blocked, allowing sufficiently salient or low-threshold content to reach awareness.
- Benton Visual Retention Test — An individually administered standardized test in which a person reproduces geometric designs from immediate or delayed exposure, yielding scored evidence about visual perception, visuoconstruction and visual memory.
- Bi-directional hypothesis of language and action — The embodied-cognition hypothesis that language comprehension and sensorimotor activity influence one another reciprocally.
- Categorical perception — A perceptual phenomenon in which continuous stimulus variation is experienced or discriminated as discrete categories, with enhanced sensitivity near category boundaries.

- Descriptive Experience Sampling — An introspective research method that samples immediately preceding inner experience at randomly signaled moments and refines descriptions through iterative interviews.
- Echoic memory — A brief high-capacity auditory sensory store that preserves a fading trace of recently heard information for perceptual integration.
- Equipotentiality — Represent Lashley's historical hypothesis that, within a relevant functional cortical area and task class, intact portions can assume functions lost when other portions are damaged, often with reduced efficiency.
- Forward testing effect — Improved learning of new material caused by retrieving earlier material between study segments.
- Information processing theory — A cognitive-development perspective that models perception, attention, memory, strategy and response as coordinated stages or resources whose capacity, speed and organization change with development.
- Law of effect — The learning principle that responses followed by satisfying consequences become more likely in the same situation, while responses followed by discomfort become less likely.
- Memorization — The deliberate encoding and consolidation of information so it can later be reproduced or recognized from memory.
- Microtraining — A short structured workplace-learning format that activates informal knowledge exchange in sessions of roughly fifteen to twenty minutes.
- Mood-dependent memory — Improved retrieval when a person’s mood at recall matches the mood present during encoding.
- Multiple trace theory — A memory theory proposing that each encoding or retrieval event creates a partly distinct trace and that remembering depends on their combined overlap rather than strengthening one stored token.

- State-dependent memory — Improved retrieval when an individual’s internal physiological, affective, or cognitive state matches the state present during encoding.
- Statistical learning in language acquisition — The extraction of distributional regularities from speech or language input, such as transitional probabilities, to discover word boundaries, categories and structural patterns.
- Subjective validation — The bias of judging a vague, coincidental or unsupported statement as accurate because it feels personally meaningful or confirms existing beliefs.
- U-shaped development — A nonmonotonic learning or developmental trajectory in which initially successful performance declines during reorganization and later recovers at a more systematic or advanced level.
- Visual short-term memory — A capacity-limited temporary store that maintains visual representations for seconds after fragile iconic persistence has faded, supporting comparison and ongoing visual cognition without long-term retention.
