Quantum Operators & State Labels¶
← Back to Domain-Specific Families
Abstractions about the mathematical machinery underlying quantum mechanics, including operators and transformations such as antiunitary operators, exchange operators and the Wigner-Weyl transform, discrete labels for quantum states like quantum number and Fock state, and related algebraic structures such as the canonical commutation relation and theta representation.
15 abstractions in this family — domain-specific abstractions that sit near one another in structural-signature space (k-means over structural-signature embeddings). Each is shown with its short description.
- Antiunitary operator — A bijective conjugate-linear map between complex Hilbert spaces that conjugates their inner products and therefore preserves norms and transition probabilities.
- Canonical commutation relation — The quantum-mechanical operator relation between canonical conjugates, exemplified by [x,p]=iℏI, encoding their noncommutativity and fixing the associated uncertainty and representation structure.
- Exchange operator — Act on a many-particle quantum state by permuting two identical-particle labels, yielding a unitary involution whose symmetric and antisymmetric eigenspaces encode bosonic and fermionic exchange behavior.
- Fidelity of quantum states — A bounded similarity measure for two quantum states based on the trace norm of their density-operator square roots, equaling transition probability for pure states under the squared convention.
- Fock state — A quantum number state with a definite occupation count in each field mode, forming an orthonormal occupation-number basis of bosonic or fermionic Fock space.
- Generalized probabilistic theory — An operational framework representing physical preparations as states, measurements as effects, transformations as maps, and outcome probabilities through convex pairings, broad enough to compare classical, quantum, and hypothetical theories.
- Magnetic Quantum Number — Label the discrete eigenvalue of an angular-momentum component along a declared quantization axis, with projection values mħ ranging from -jħ to +jħ in unit steps.
- Particle statistics — The exchange-linked occupation rules and ideal-gas equilibrium laws for identical bosons and fermions, with classical counting recovered in the dilute limit.
- Quantum calculus — Calculus built from finite q-ratio or h-shift difference operators and corresponding sums, recovering ordinary differential and integral calculus as q→1 or h→0 rather than using limits internally.
- Quantum instrument — Model a quantum measurement as an outcome-indexed completely positive operation-valued measure that jointly determines classical outcome probabilities and conditional post-measurement quantum states.
- Quantum number — A discrete or continuous label for an allowed quantum state, usually tied to eigenvalues of commuting observables or symmetry representations.
- Reversible reference system propagation algorithm — Integrate molecular dynamics with a symmetric multiple-time-step factorization that evaluates fast force components frequently and slow components less often while preserving time reversibility.
- Siegel upper half-space — The complex manifold of symmetric g-by-g matrices with positive-definite imaginary part, a Hermitian symmetric domain on which the real symplectic group acts transitively and the degree-g setting for Siegel modular forms.
- Theta representation — A representation of the real Heisenberg group on a function space whose lattice-compatible vectors and transformation laws generate Jacobi theta functions.
- Wigner–Weyl transform — An invertible correspondence between phase-space functions and quantum operators that underlies the quasiprobability formulation of quantum mechanics.
