- Anelastic attenuation factor — Parameterize intrinsic seismic-wave energy loss by a quality factor Q whose inverse gives fractional energy dissipated per cycle under a declared frequency model.
- Arias intensity — A seismic ground-motion measure proportional to the time integral of squared acceleration.
- Convergent boundary — A plate-tectonic boundary where lithospheric plates move toward one another, producing subduction or continental collision and associated deformation, seismicity and mountain building.

- Free-air gravity anomaly — The difference between observed and theoretical gravity after correcting measurement elevation to a reference level without compensating for intervening terrain mass.
- Geomagnetic jerk — A comparatively abrupt change in the second time derivative of Earth's secular magnetic-field variation.
- Gutenberg–Richter law — An empirical log-linear relation in which the number of earthquakes at or above magnitude M decreases approximately as ten to the power a minus bM.
- Harmonic tremor — A sustained seismic or infrasonic signal with narrow spectral bands or overtone-like peaks, often associated with volcanic fluid motion but also generated by nonvolcanic repetitive sources.
- Inertial wave — A wave in a rotating fluid restored by the Coriolis force, with frequency bounded by twice the rotation rate and propagation strongly dependent on direction.
- Interferometric synthetic-aperture radar — A remote-sensing technique that compares the phase of two or more coherent SAR observations to estimate surface elevation, displacement or atmospheric path change along the radar line of sight.
- Long-period ground motion — Low-frequency earthquake ground motion with periods long enough to strongly excite flexible tall, long-span or base-isolated structures.
- Love wave — A horizontally polarized shear surface wave guided by an elastic layer over a half-space.
- Plus–minus method — A reciprocal seismic-refraction analysis that combines travel times from opposite shot points to estimate refractor depth and velocity.
- Repetition method — A surveying procedure that measures the same horizontal angle successively around an instrument circle so accumulated readings can be divided and systematic effects reduced.
- Seismic anisotropy — Directional dependence of seismic-wave speed, polarization, or attenuation at a point, represented through elastic symmetry and used to infer layering, cracks, stress, and mantle fabric.
- Seismic attribute — A measured or derived quantity computed from seismic data to expose geological, stratigraphic or fluid-related patterns that may be subtle in the original image.
- Stacking velocity — The effective seismic velocity that best fits a hyperbolic normal-moveout curve to reflection travel times across offsets in a common-midpoint gather.
- Teleseism — Seismic motion from an earthquake recorded at a great epicentral distance, commonly beyond regional distances where waves traverse deep Earth paths.
- Transient electromagnetics — A time-domain geophysical method that drives a pulsed primary electromagnetic field and measures the decay of induced subsurface currents to infer electrical structure.
- Traverse (surveying) — A surveying method that determines a sequence of control stations from measured distances and directions along connected lines.
- Vertical electrical sounding — A surface geophysical method that varies electrode spacing and measures apparent resistivity to infer one-dimensional changes in subsurface electrical properties with depth.
