Feminist method¶
A family of research practices that makes gendered power, situated knowledge, researcher position, participant voice, and emancipatory consequences explicit in producing and evaluating knowledge.
Core Idea¶
Feminist methods vary across qualitative, quantitative, historical, participatory, and standpoint approaches, but share reflexive scrutiny of androcentric assumptions, hierarchy, representation, and whose experience counts as evidence. Researchers locate a question within power relations, examine positionality and exclusions, choose methods responsive to affected participants, test claims against diverse experience and counterevidence, and report both epistemic and ethical consequences. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
