Feminist post-structuralist discourse analysis¶
A discourse-analytic method examining how interacting speakers are multiply positioned by competing gendered discourses, power relations and shifting subjectivities.
Core Idea¶
FPDA combines feminist concern with unequal power and post-structuralist attention to instability, avoiding a single fixed victim-dominant reading and focusing principally on spoken interaction. Detailed discourse episodes are read for available subject positions, moments of negotiation and resistance and how local interaction reproduces or disrupts wider gendered discourses. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of gender and language research. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the recorded or textual interaction and consent governance, participants and setting, transcription, discourse fragments, gendered and competing discourses, subject positions, local power shifts, analyst reflexivity, counterreadings and evidential excerpts are explicit.
