High-stakes testing¶
Assessment whose score triggers substantial consequences for a test taker, educator, institution or public decision.
Core Idea¶
Difficulty alone does not make a test high-stakes, stakes can attach to individuals or organizations, validity for one use does not establish validity for another and accountability consequences can change teaching and participation behavior. A standardized or local score is compared with a threshold or rule, and the resulting classification controls access, certification, funding, sanctions or advancement, creating incentives that feed back into preparation and score meaning. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶

Manages Complexity¶
