Index set¶
A set whose elements label the members of an indexed family through a declared assignment.
Core Idea¶
Indexing need not be injective, while enumeration often implies additional order or bijection; the same family may admit many index sets and multiplicity is carried by labels. A labeling map sends each index to one family member, allowing repeated values, ordered traversal, summation or coordinate reference without making labels themselves part of the represented objects. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
