Interpersonal gap¶
A communication model locating misunderstanding in the discrepancy between a sender's intention, the message behavior produced, the receiver's interpretation and the resulting effect.
Core Idea¶
The interpersonal gap is the mismatch that arises across successive stages from intended meaning through expressed message to another person's interpretation and experienced effect. Encoding choices, incomplete cues, assumptions and inference transform intention into behavior and behavior into impact; feedback can expose and narrow discrepancies.
