LGBTQ slang¶
A changing in-group lexicon used across LGBTQ communities for identity, affiliation, humor, discretion, critique and culturally specific experience.
Core Idea¶
Queer slang differs by language, place, generation, race, subculture and platform; terms can be reclaimed, contested, exported into mainstream speech or weaponized, so speaker, audience and context govern meaning. Communities coin, borrow and resemanticize expressions, restricted circulation marks belonging or protects communication and repeated social use stabilizes or changes the terms' meanings and indexical force. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
