Linking pin model¶
An organizational design of overlapping work groups in which each group's leader is simultaneously a member of the next higher group.
Core Idea¶
The dual membership creates a chain of representatives who maintain cohesion below while carrying information, influence and coordination across hierarchical levels. A linking manager participates in two adjacent units, translating goals and feedback in both directions and connecting otherwise separate group decision processes through shared membership. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of organization design. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the organization and hierarchy, work groups, each linking member's two memberships and authority, upward representation, downward coordination, communication channels, decision rights and cohesion evidence are explicit.
