Medcouple¶
A robust median-based statistic of univariate skewness formed from paired observations on opposite sides of the sample median.
Core Idea¶
Its finite-sample kernel and tie conventions must be declared, the value measures skew rather than tail weight, and its bounded influence and breakdown behavior do not make every adjusted-boxplot rule distribution-free. Upper- and lower-half observations are paired around the median, a normalized kernel compares their left and right spreads, and the median of all kernel values suppresses the leverage of a minority of extreme observations. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.

Clarity¶

Manages Complexity¶
