Core Idea

Military globalization is the process by which military relations and capabilities become more extensive, intensive, rapid, consequential, and interdependent across political boundaries.[1] Transport, communication, weapons, production networks, alliances, bases, doctrines, and institutions connect formerly separated military systems and make distant force or regulation locally consequential. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.

The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of international relations and globalization studies. It is a multidimensional process of transboundary military coupling that integrates war-system relations, production and transfers, and governance without reducing to any one component. That residual remains recognizable when examples, notation, scale, or implementation change, but it disappears if the account lists international wars or weapons without showing increasing cross-border connectivity, treats every military event as globalization, or mistakes one index for the phenomenon itself. This gives the entry an operational identity rather than merely a historical label.

A useful analysis keeps three layers separate. The constitutive layer says what must be true: military actors, infrastructures, or regulatory relations become linked across distance so that capabilities, threats, constraints, and decisions propagate through a wider system. The evidential layer asks what observation or proof warrants the claim: declare the unit, period, dimension, spatial reach, intensity, velocity, and impact of military interconnection rather than assuming a single universal measure. The abstraction manages complexity when it reduces the state space of the question while keeping the failure boundary visible; it mismanages complexity when the label substitutes for that boundary analysis.

Structural–Framed Character
