Minuet¶
A courtly dance and associated musical form in moderate triple meter, typically organized in balanced phrases and later expanded into minuet-and-trio form.
Core Idea¶
Dance choreography and instrumental movement are related but distinct uses, tempo character and phrase length vary historically and a scherzo can occupy the same formal slot without being a minuet. Small measured steps align with recurring triple-meter phrases; instrumental adaptations preserve the dance’s accent and binary design, often pairing two minuets with a da capo return to create ABA form. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
