Mood-dependent memory¶
Improved retrieval when a person’s mood at recall matches the mood present during encoding.
Core Idea¶
Mood-dependent memory concerns reinstatement of the encoding state and differs from mood-congruent recall of similarly valenced material; induction authenticity and measurement matter. Mood becomes part of the encoding context, and reinstating it later supplies overlapping cues that increase access to the stored episode. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of cognitive psychology.
