Narrative bias¶
A cognitive tendency to privilege coherent stories over complex, statistical, fragmented, or causally unrelated information.
Core Idea¶
Narrative bias makes anecdotal sequences feel more credible, memorable, and explanatory than less story-shaped evidence and can impose causal links on coincident events. Plot coherence, identifiable actors, temporal ordering, and emotional salience increase processing fluency and recall, encouraging the interpreter to substitute story fit for evidential weight. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
