Partial residual plot¶
A regression diagnostic plotting a predictor against residuals augmented by that predictor's fitted contribution to reveal its adjusted functional relationship with the response.
Core Idea¶
A partial residual plot visualizes the focal predictor's relationship after retaining its fitted component and residual variation. Adding beta_j x_j back to each residual removes other fitted contributions while restoring the focal linear component, so curvature can expose misspecification. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
