Pedantry¶
Disproportionate insistence on minor rules, formal correctness or displays of learning when those details contribute little to the purpose and obstruct relevance, communication or judgment.

Pedantry is excessive attention to small formal details or technical correctness relative to the practical or communicative importance of those details. Attention and status reward concentrate on easily policed rules; repeated correction displaces the main question and signals expertise or control while ignoring proportionality. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of social behavior. It is context-relative excess of formal-detail enforcement rather than expertise or accuracy itself.
