Core Idea¶

Peripheral nationalism constructs a national community in a substate territory whose claims conflict with or qualify the encompassing state's nation-building project.^[1] Cultural distinctiveness, uneven development and center–periphery power are politicized by organizations that demand recognition, resources, self-rule or independence.
