Core Idea¶

Pivot thrashing is the venture-strategy pathology in which a team changes direction — target customer, value proposition, business model, or core technology — faster than any single direction can accumulate enough evidence to yield an interpretable signal, so it accumulates change episodes without accumulating learning. The mechanism is an imbalance between adaptation cadence and evidence horizon: experiments are abandoned mid-run, and the strategy ledger holds many shallow entries rather than one deep one.
