Pollyanna principle¶
A positivity bias favoring pleasant information in memory, attention or judgment under specified conditions.
Core Idea¶
Subconscious and conscious effects, age and task vary, and the literary label does not make every optimism effect one mechanism. Valence-weighted encoding, accessibility or retrieval makes pleasant stimuli more available or accurately remembered than unpleasant comparators. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of cognitive psychology. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the participants and task, positive and negative stimuli, valence validation, encoding and retrieval conditions, outcome measure, comparison and effect direction, awareness level, confounds and replication evidence are explicit.
