Postmaterialism¶
Model a cohort-level shift in value priority from economic and physical security toward autonomy, self-expression, participation, equality, and quality-of-life goals under sustained formative security.
Core Idea¶
Postmaterialism is Inglehart's theory and measurement of a shift from material security priorities toward autonomy and self-expression priorities. When formative socialization occurs under sustained security, scarcity makes previously less-secure goals less dominant; cohort replacement then changes aggregate value distributions over decades. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of political sociology. It is the scarcity/socialization mechanism plus a relative priority structure measured across cohorts.
