Qwerty effect¶
A proposed and contested psycholinguistic association in which words containing more right-hand QWERTY-keyboard letters receive slightly more positive valence judgments.
Core Idea¶
The QWERTY effect is the hypothesis that keyboard-side motor fluency or learned associations weakly influence perceived word positivity.[1] If right-hand keystrokes are easier or more fluent under common typing patterns, processing fluency may be misattributed as positive affect, producing a statistical valence difference. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of psycholinguistics. It is interface-layout-linked valence hypothesis connecting typing asymmetry to lexical judgment.
