Rank aggregation¶
The construction of one consensus ordering from multiple rankings over a common set of alternatives.
Core Idea¶
Input rankings may be partial or weighted, distance and voting objectives can conflict and impossibility, strategic and computational issues depend on the rule. An aggregation rule compares pairwise preferences or distances among orders, optimizes a consensus criterion and resolves ties under declared fairness and robustness principles. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of social choice theory. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the alternatives and input rankings, completeness and ties, voter or source weights, aggregation rule and objective, distance or pairwise counts, tie breaking, axiomatic properties, complexity and sensitivity to additions or manipulation are explicit.
Scope of Application¶
