Satavado¶
A hereditary Georgian feudal territorial lordship and political unit organized around a Tavadi and allied noble families between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries.
Core Idea¶
The term names both an estate-centered polity and a hierarchy of oath-bound families, varies by period and region and should not be equated mechanically with a modern county. Weakening royal authority allowed powerful nobles to consolidate lands, dependents and jurisdiction into hereditary lordships whose internal family alliances and private power fragmented kingdom-wide governance. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
