Simple commodity production¶
A mode of commodity exchange in which independent producers own their means of production and sell their own products to obtain other use values.
Core Idea¶
Simple means a comparatively direct circulation structure rather than technologically primitive work, producers are neither principally wage laborers nor capitalist employers, and the category is an analytical abstraction whose historical prevalence is debated. Producers apply their own or household labor to privately controlled tools and materials, sell output as commodities for money and use the money chiefly to buy other commodities, following C–M–C rather than capital’s M–C–M-prime circuit. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
