Simple Knowledge Organization System¶
A W3C RDF vocabulary for representing concept schemes, labels, notes and semantic relations so controlled vocabularies can be published and linked on the Web.
Core Idea¶
SKOS represents concepts rather than treating terms as classes, distinguishes preferred, alternative and hidden labels, and supplies broader, narrower, related, mapping and collection relations with limited formal entailment. Each concept receives an RDF identifier, lexical labels and documentation are attached, hierarchical or associative links form a concept scheme, and mappings connect concepts across schemes while preserving declared semantics. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
