Socialism¶
A family of political-economic doctrines and institutions organized around social ownership or control of productive resources and opposition to unrestricted private ownership of the means of production.
Core Idea¶
Socialist traditions differ over state, cooperative, communal, employee, or public ownership; markets versus planning; centralization; democracy; class; reform versus revolution; and the relation between ownership, management, and distribution. A political community reallocates control and residual claims over productive assets from private capital owners toward collective institutions, then coordinates investment, production, work, and distribution through a declared governance arrangement. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
