Suggestion¶
A psychological influence process in which presented ideas or cues guide thoughts, feelings or actions with reduced deliberate evaluation.
Core Idea¶
Suggestion spans ordinary social influence, expectation effects, hypnosis and self-suggestion, and must not be equated with coercion or reliable memory implantation. An authority, context or salient cue raises the accessibility and expectancy of a response, making congruent perception or behavior more likely. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
The load-bearing residual is not the broad topic of psychology. It is the domain-specific identity fixed by the agent or self-suggestion source, recipient and context, proposed idea or cue, delivery and credibility, conscious awareness, target response, comparison condition, observed effect and alternative demand or conformity explanations are explicit.
