Core Idea¶

Symbolic convergence theory proposes that people develop group consciousness by sharing imaginative interpretations of events.^[1] A dramatizing message resonates, participants elaborate it in a chain, recurrent themes become shared symbolic shorthand and related themes form a rhetorical vision supporting collective identity. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
