User interface design¶
The design of perceptible controls, information and interaction behavior through which people operate a system.
Core Idea¶
UI design is not limited to visual styling, differs from the whole user experience and must incorporate accessibility, device and context constraints rather than one presumed user. User goals and tasks are mapped to an interaction model and information hierarchy, interface states and controls are prototyped and evaluation iteratively revises clarity, feedback, consistency and error recovery. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
Scope of Application¶
User interface design belongs to human computer interaction and is useful where the analyst can specify the typed human computer interaction carrier, including objects, relations, parameters, conventions, evidence, boundaries, and comparison targets, then evaluate the users goals and context, system capabilities and constraints, information architecture, interaction model and task flows, controls states navigation and feedback, visual auditory or haptic presentation, accessibility and localization, prototypes and usability evidence and consistency and error handling are explicit.
Clarity¶

Manages Complexity¶
