Core Idea

World-systems analysis treats core, semiperiphery, periphery, commodity chains, state competition, labor regimes, and cycles as relations inside one transregional system rather than independent national trajectories. Unequal exchange, capital accumulation, coercive capacity, production specialization, and network position reproduce differentiated zones while crises and hegemonic shifts reorganize the whole. The abstraction is therefore identified by a declared carrier, a transformation or constraint over that carrier, and an invariant that tells an analyst whether the named structure is genuinely present.
