Core Idea

Adaptive redirection occurs when evidence weakens a current course, an agent selects a materially different course while preserving the objective, and specific learning or capability accumulated on the old path is deliberately made useful on the new one. It is change with selective memory, not persistence, abandonment, or restart. A current course and objective exist; feedback disconfirms the course; persistence, redirection, and abandonment are distinguishable options; a new course is chosen; and retained knowledge, relationships, infrastructure, or capability is load-bearing after the change.

Product strategy, research programs, clinical plans, engineering designs, military maneuver, and organizational turnaround preserve the same course–evidence–redirection–carry-forward roles. Domain vocabulary can be removed without changing the mechanism.

Clarity

Adaptation allows incremental tuning without a discrete course change. Learning need not redirect action. Path dependence can be passive lock-in. A restart changes course while discarding accumulated value. A pivot is the entrepreneurial specialization.

The abstraction turns scattered cases into one role-based test: identify the required elements, test their relation, and reject the classification when a constitutive commitment is missing.
