Primes¶
- Dragon King Theory
- Material rupture — catastrophic failures of pressure vessels and composites can be preceded by accelerating, log-periodic bursts of acoustic emission, the same signature applied to fracture.
This sourceApplies the critical-rupture / log-periodic acoustic-emission framework to material failure of pressure vessels and composites.
SupportedVerified against the publisher's abstract
Johansen and Sornette report that acoustic emission recordings from seven pressure tanks brought to rupture "exhibit clear acceleration in agreement with a power law" divergence of the kind critical point theory predicts, together with "strong evidence of log-periodic corrections that quantify the intermittent succession of accelerating bursts and quiescent phases of the acoustic emissions on the approach to rupture". The vessels are kevlar and carbon-fibre composites, the materials the sentence names. The work reports the signature for these composite pressure vessels and does not itself draw the comparison with the other domains the sentence's same signature gestures at.
“We find that the seven acoustic emission recordings of seven pressure tanks which was brought to rupture exhibit clear acceleration in agreement with a power law “divergence” expected from the critical point theory. In addition, we find strong evidence of log-periodic corrections that quantify the intermittent succession of accelerating bursts and quiescent phases of the acoustic emissions on the approach to rupture.”

Verification¶
Does it exist? Confirmed. This work's DOI resolves to a registered record, which fixes its identity. That is all it fixes.
Does it back the claim? Read against the text for 1 of 1 citation: 1 supported. Each verdict is shown under its citation below, with what in the work backs the sentence.
Support is checked per citation rather than per work — the same source can be cited soundly in one article and wrongly in another. Per-citation recording began recently, so a citation with no recorded check is a gap in the record rather than evidence it went unchecked.
